Musician and historian Dennis Stroughmat will enlighten and entertain. Sponsored by the State Historical Society of Missouri.
Come sample the Joy of Life during a special summertime presentation Thursday evening, July 24th, 7:00 p.m., at Grace Episcopal Church, downtown Jefferson City. Musician and historian Dennis Stroughmatt will enlighten about La Guillanee, originally a Celtic tradition of sharing food and bounty throughout communities during winter. It began centuries ago in France, bringing communities together to celebrate the twelve days of Christmas and joie de vivre. No longer celebrated in France, La Guillanee remains alive and well in the "Illinois Country" of Illinois and Missouri. Stroughmatt will entertain as he explores the European, Canadian, and French Creole roots of this Missouri tradition with fiddle music and foods eaten during the festivities. This program is sponsored by Grace Episcopal Church (High & Adams Streets, downtown Jefferson City) and the State Historical Society of Missouri. Please invite others to join you at this summer escape!
