Come hear Robert Mitchell's Jazz Mass
We are very pleased that Robert Mitchell has again arranged and composed music for the jazz mass that will be presented at the 10:30 service on Sunday, February 14. The music follows the order of the Holy Eucharist Rite II. In addition to the pipe organ, there will be a quintet, consisting of a piano, saxophone, trumpet, electric bass, and drums, accompanying the service.
The “Prelude,” an original composition, will be performed by the organ and the jazz quintet. The “Gloria in Excelsis” is an original composition accompanied by the organ. The “Gradual” and the “Offertory” are Robert's arrangements of Negro Spirituals. The “Doxology,” which follows, is an original composition accompanied by the quintet. The “Sanctus” and the “Fraction anthem” are both original compositions that will be accompanied by the organ. The “Communion Hymn” is also his arrangement of a Negro Spiritual. The “Postlude” is an original composition accompanied by the quintet. During the service there will be times for improvisation by the quintet.
Your attendance is encouraged, and it will be another wonderful opportunity to celebrate the Eucharist in a unique way.
