The path ahead Bless to me, O God, the earth beneath My feet, Bless to me, O God, the path whereon I go, Bless to me, O God, the people whom I meet, Today, tonight and tomorrow. Amen This poem from The Prayer Garden, an anthology of children’s prayers that is in our church library, can be our daily prayer at this time of “beginnings” - school has begun for some and soon will for others; the Sunday morning Christian education classes for children and youth begin this month, as does Adult Forum. September and books seem to go together, and there are a number of new books, as well as some that have been in the library for several years that may be of interest to children, youth and adults. These books and resources are listed below with a brief description. For children. . . God, I’ve gotta talk to you! - This is one of many Arch Books publications for young children available in the library. While most of these books bring stories of the Bible to children in a fun-to-read way, this new book in the series is a devotional/prayer book. For youth. . . If God Loves Me, Why Can’t I Get My Locker Open?- Published in 1980, the questions, situations and choices faced by teens and their parents today are addressed in this book subtitled Devotional for Teens. “How can I get rid of self-consciousness?” “What’s wrong with sex before marriage?” “How can I control what I say?” These are a few of the questions for discussion, along with Biblical references, that are meant to aid teenagers in applying Bible teachings to daily life. Who Will Listen to Me?: Prayer Thoughts for High School Girls - This compilation of poetic prayers include “I’m glad to have my friend,” “It’s easy to gossip,” “What about drinking?” “I want to be popular,” “Sex isn’t simple” What Teens Need to Succeed: Proven, Practical Ways to Shape Your Own Future - This book introduces an “asset-building approach” in helping youth succeed (as opposed to the “problem-centered approach”). The easy-to-follow steps in this process that involves home, friends, community, and church congregations are supported by extensive resources lists, activities, and “ideas lists.” For adults. . . Copies of booklets and pamphlets from the Parent Institute on various aspects of child-rearing, including discipline, making choices, character development, and success in school (PK – High School) Several books recently donated to the library on ethics, the Daily Office, Christian theology, leadership, and contemplation.
