GETTING READY FOR FALL
Sunday School and more
Godly Play
Godly Play is an exciting way in which children experience God while learning about God. It involves helping children worship in a special place apart from the worshiping congregation so they become able to worship in a meaningful way with the congregation. Godly Play is a way that adults and children can grow in love for God and for one another. It uses a manner of story telling as a way to encounter God to facilitate the experience of God. Each class session follows the pattern of the church’s Sunday service, so children will have a deeper understanding and enjoy full participation in the parish worship.
If you would like to help with the implementation of Godly Play, please contact Sandy Weis at 635-4405. A workshop to begin making materials will be held Oct. 6th from 9-2. The only requirement is a willingness to help children experience God in a unique setting.
Youth Sunday School
This year the middle school youth will be joining the high school class in the youth room with Kevin Thompson as teacher. The youth curriculum will feature four areas of Christian life: Bible, Faith Development, Service, and Community Building. A planning meeting on August 26th will work out a plan to facilitate the changes in the coming year.
New “Friends In Christ”
At Baptism we are initiated into the community of faith and adopted by God as God’s children. In an effort to strengthen intergenerational relationships with each other, Grace Church adults are invited to “adopt” a child or youth for the upcoming program year. Envelopes containing the name, birthday, and baptismal anniversary of a child in the congregation will be available for adults to adopt and support through prayer, cards, notes, or other activities. Some ways to support your “Friend in Christ” include remembering him/her with a birthday card, baptismal anniversary card, Christmas, and Easter cards. Other ideas for building a caring relationship are: visit Sunday school with the child, sit with this person occasionally at church, send email notes, participate in a Community Ministry project together, pray for the person each day. “Friends in Christ” offers a way to build ongoing relationships that build the Kingdom of God in our midst.
