Grace Recognized by Downtown Association

by Julie Harker last modified Wed Aug 22 05:26 PM

Grace Church is the Jefferson City Downtown Association Member of the Month

Grace Church was selected as this month’s member of the month of
Jefferson City’s Downtown Association.  Grace joined the association
in June as a part of our efforts to live out the goals of our self-study.
An important priority established in the self-study is increased
community involvement by the church, in addition to individual
involvement.  The Community Ministries Committee has taken the lead in
this area, organizing regular work groups for the Samaritan Center and
the River City Habitat for Humanity Re-Store, as well as developing the
Lohman Prayer Garden on the grounds of the Salvation Army shelter.

As a part of the “Member of the Month” activities, Ken Luebbering,
Grace’s delegate to the Downtown Association, took part in the
Association’s monthly appearance on Warren Kretch’s morning talk
show on Friday, August 17th.  The conversation included some of the history of
Grace’s community involvement as well as questions about our new
rector, Rev. Sariya Molegoda, with an invitation for her to appear on the show after she arrives.

The Downtown Association has already contributed to Grace’s community
efforts by assisting in promoting the “Rags in Bloom” concert that
was such a successful fund-raiser for the Lohman Prayer Garden project.

As part of Grace’s Congregational Development work, a planning team
is preparing for a 2:00 p.m. concert in the church to mark the close of
the Downtown Association’s October 20th Harvest Festival.  We may also have
some Grace musicians appearing on the Festival’s music stage earlier
that day.  That same day, Community Ministry volunteers will help at
the Festival pumpkin sale to raise money for the Samaritan Center.
