Remembering our blessings on Thanksgiving Day and the responsibilities that come with them.

In the Episcopal Church, we remember God’s gifts to us on Thanksgiving Day.  We also remember that with blessings come responsibilities.  With the blessing of abundant food for our family, we can think about the responsibilities that such a blessing entails.

We can use the time and money we spend on food:

·      to nourish our family’s health (vegetables vs. sugar)

·      to enhance our family’s time together (shared meals vs. snacks)

·      to support those who work to produce our food (buy fresh food from local suppliers)

·      to work toward a fair distribution of food for all people (find ways to nourish the hungry in our community and around the world.)

We are also called to take responsibility for the riches we have because we live in a land of wealth and privilege.

"Be joyful always; pray at all times; be thankful in all circumstances. This is what God wants of you, in your life in Christ Jesus."                   I Thessalonians 5:16-18

Advent starts on the last Sunday in November.  Rather than having the Advent calendars with the windows for the children this year, you will find in your issue of the Messenger, a Family Devotional Advent Booklet that can be read to your children as you enjoy your evening meal or at bedtime.  The booklets also have a good message for adults.

On a separate note: It’s early, but be thinking about your Christmas plans.  Will you be here for the Family Worship Service at 5:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve?  Will your child/ren be available to be in the program?  Watch for the announcements of practice dates in the near future.
