Time for financial stewardship

by Paula Bone last modified Fri Oct 31 03:53 PM

Financial pledge letter and card have been sent to all parishioners

In September, one parishioner mentioned that she needed to follow-up with someone because her stewardship envelope did not include the financial pledge form.  That is a conscientious Grace member!

After the ministry fair, the stewardship focus was on thoughtful, prayerful completion of the “Time and Talent” pledges, culminating with the October celebratory dinner.  Now, it is time to focus on the financial aspect of stewardship.

Grace Church and our diocese need financial support, as do most, if not, all organizations. But contributing to Grace is different.  This is a part of our responsibility for holy giving.

How we spend our money is reflective of our priorities.  A budget shows what we value. Because it does, a budget is a moral document.

These are indeed uncertain economic times.  Even if you have not had a budget in the past, it may be a good time to consider developing one.  With the aid of a budget, you can certainly determine proportionally how your holy giving compares to your entertainment or travel budget. When you look at your holy giving proportionally with your other budget line items, are you satisfied?  Will your holy giving increase over the previous year?

By the time you read this, you may have received the financial pledge letter and card.  Please read the letter, as it is a more in-depth development of this concept of financial stewardship. As you prayerfully complete the 2009 card, remember that this financial pledge is a commitment, a vow with sacred meaning.  The stewardship team hopes that you will give because of a shared sense of purpose, and that you will exercise the greatest generosity possible.  Please bring your completed pledge card to church on Sunday, November 16th to place in the offering plate.

As most of you will recall, Grace Church parishioners participated in an extensive self-study which resulted in a new leadership model.  We are seeing the implementation of aspects of that self-study and leadership model in our church community; but, financial support is needed to continue to grow and serve our Heavenly Father. As our motto states, live generously and give generously!
