A Message from Today’s Newcomers
You don’t know why I’m here this morning
I may have recently moved here. My child may have reached Sunday-school age. I may be in a crisis. But here I am. And I’ll be back again next Sunday, if you’re willing to:
-Smile at me and say hello when I come in. You’re my first impression of this church, and I’ll never forget it.
-Help me find my place in the service. I won’t see it as an intrusion but as a kindness.
-Greet me when the service ends. It may be a little awkward for both of us, but I want to tell you a little bit about who I am and why I’m here.
-Talk with me during coffee hour. I’ll really know what kind of a church community this is when I see that you care for strangers in your midst.
-Tell me good things about your church - its people and its leaders. I want to know that I’ve come to a place where people care about each other and believe they’re doing something exciting and important for God.
-Invite me to a church activity. I need to know that I’m accepted and welcomed by people who will get to know me by name and care about me as an individual.
If you’re willing to do these things, I’ll be back next week. And if it continues, who knows what I might get involved in! (Adapted from Christ Church Cathedral and the Diocese of New Jersey)
