November Salvation Army Dinner
by Linda Sappington
Eric & Daphne Hedges, Ann Kyle, and my husband Dave and I served dinner at the Salvation Army the weekend before Thanksgiving. While planning, fixing, and most of all serving I was feeling blessed this time of Thanksgiving. Seeing families, single men, and women, knowing that for whatever reason they don’t have the things I take so easily for granted, broke my heart. While waiting for dinner to be served, Ann even gave an impromptu piano lesson to a young boy that was sitting at the piano. I am sure this young boy will remember the few moments that Ann spent with him for a long time. If you are thinking about reaching out and helping a group of people in the upcoming year, I highly recommend sharing some time with the residents at the Salvation Army; it is one of the most rewarding things I have done.
