Thank You
by Vicki Myers
I would again like to thank all of the parishioners who volunteered at the Salvation Army in one capacity or the other in December. Their efforts were certainly appreciated, and with their help we fulfilled our responsibilities in this ministry in 2011. The bell ringers were Eric Hedges; the Krause family; Dennis and Nancy Belcher; Susan Lissant; Karen Winn; the Rodemeyer family; Jordan Myers and his sister, Jessica Harvey; Bob Harker; Ted Koenig; and Jeanie Bryant. They each spent time on Saturday, December 10, in front of Penneys at the mall to encourage shoppers to drop donations into the red kettle which would help support the Christmas activities for families in need.
On December 13, 14, and 15, Lee West, DJ Nash, Ray Evans, Suzanne Richter, Karyn Williams, Edmond Ikeh, Bill and Barbara Wolkoff, and Sam and Gloria Overfelt helped families with their shopping at the Salvation Army. These volunteers escorted parents to help them shop for clothes, toys, and food for their families. I understand that there were many parents there and the volunteers stayed busy assisting them to make their selections.
The following week, George Hartsfield, Ray Evans, and DJ Nash were available to help families pick up their Christmas packages. There was not much activity for some of the volunteers because there were fewer families this year.
Dennis and Nancy Belcher and their helpers provided the December meal for the Salvation Army residents on Sunday, December 18. There were not many residents for supper but the food that was prepared did not go to waste.
Again thanks to all of the volunteers for taking time out of their busy schedules to help others who are in need. They epitomized the spirit of Christmas."
